HOWEY IN THE HILLS, Fla. – The Valdosta State golf team jumped one position on Tuesday (March 1st, 2016) for an 11th place finish at the Super Regional D2 South and Southeast Preview at the El Campeon in Howey-in-the-Hills, Fla.
In a field of 18, the Blazers edged out Gulf South Conference rival North Alabama to claim a position at eleventh place with a team score of 77-over 941 on the 7,015 yard, par 72 course.
Chris Rogers served as VSU’s top performer after posting a 5-over 77 score in the opening round, before improving to a 3-over 75 effort in the second round and a 6-over 78 score in Tuesday’s final round. As a result, Rogers finished tied for 29th on the leaderboard.
David Hobby followed tied at 40th with a strong opening round score of 2-over 74, before falling to a 5-over 77 score in round two and a closing round score of 9-over 81. Meanwhile, Davis Roche fell in tied for 62nd with a score of 240 overall, which included rounds of 8-over 80, 9-over 81, and 7-over 79.
Jake Harpe rounded out the Blazers’ field with scores of 6-over 78, 9-over 81, and 14-over 86 for a 73rd place position on the leaderboard, while Matt Anderson dropped in at 80th place with a first round of 11-over 83, a second round score of 13-over 85, and a final round of 8-over 80.
The Lynn Fighting Knights took the tournament with a top score of 880 at 16-over, while Chico State came in close behind for a second place finish at 18-over 882. South Regional opponent St. Leo rounded out the top three finishers at 27-over 891.
Next up for Valdosta State, it’s the First Federal Southeastern Collegiate, which is scheduled to be held at VSU’s home course at Kinderlou Forest in Valdosta, Ga.
