Will Chandler of Atlanta earned medalist honors and a trip to the U.S. Junior Amateur Championship after posting a 5-under-par 137 (69-68) in a 36-hole qualifier at University of Georgia Golf Course in Athens. Chandler qualified along with Spencer Ralston of Gainesville (74-65) and David Mackey of Watkinsville (72-67), who both scored 3-under-par 139s.
Two players tied at 2-under-par 140, including Trevor Phillips of Inman, S.C., and Chandler Eaton of Alpharetta, so a playoff was needed to determine the fourth qualifying spot and first alternate position. After one playoff hole (#10), Eaton made his birdie putt, giving him the fourth qualifying spot into the national championship. Phillips hit it over the green to make bogey to finish as first alternate. Austin Mancilla of Lawrenceville finished as second alternate at 1-under-par 141 (72-69).
The 68th annual U.S. Junior Amateur Championship will be held at Colleton River Plantation Club in Bluffton, S.C., July 20-25, 2015. Entries were open to amateur golfers who will not have reached their 18th birthday on or before July 20, 2015, and who have a USGA Handicap Index not exceeding 6.4. The U.S. Junior Amateur is one of 13 national championships conducted annually by the United States Golf Association.
