CARTERSVILLE, Ga.– Auston Kim of St. Augustine, Fla., posted a 1-under-par 71 to earn medalist honors and qualify for the U.S. Girls’ Junior Championship. Five others earned spots in the national championship at an 18-hole qualifier that was held at Cartersville Country Club, including Sophie Guo of Orlando, Fla., (72). Brooke Sansom of Pike Road, Ala., (72), Georgian Diana Liu of Johns Creek (74), Georgian Tiffany Kang of Suwanee (75), and Georgian Kelly Strickland of Alpharetta (75).
Kang and Strickland earned their spots in a playoff to determine the final two qualifying places. Elisa Yang of Norcross, Ga., (75) finished as first alternate. A second playoff was needed to determine the second alternate position for those finishing at 77, and Georgian Julianna Collett of St. Simons Island claimed it.
Cartersville Country Club played to 6,239 yards and a par 72.
The U.S. Girls’ Junior Championship will be held at The Ridgewood Country Club in Paramus, N.J., July 18-23. The U.S. Girls’ Junior Championship is one of 13 national championships conducted annually by the United States Golf Association.
