Four Georgians qualify for the U.S. Amateur Championship after finishing in the top four at a 36-hole sectional at Capital City Club-Crabapple in Woodstock, Ga. Christopher Guglielmo of Cumming earned medalist honors with a total score of 9-under-par 131 (65-66). Guglielmo currently plays golf at Kennesaw State University.
Guglielmo is joined by fellow Kennesaw State Owl Jake Fendt of Suwanee, who qualified at 8-under-par 132 (64-68). The other two are Jake Harpe of Griffin at 7-under-par 133 (66-67) and Vincent Whaley of Fayetteville at 6-under-par 134 (69-65). Harpe plays his collegiate golf at Valdosta State University, while Whaley competes for Georgia Tech.
The first alternate is Zack Jaworski of Alpharetta (5-under-par 135, 67-68) and second is Jaime Lopez Rivarola of Athens (4-under-par 136, 67-69). Jaworski is a member of the Vanderbilt Commodores golf program and Rivarola tees it up for the Georgia Bulldogs.
This was the first of two 36-hole qualifiers in the state of Georgia for the 2015 U.S. Amateur Championship. The field of 132 players competed for four automatic spots into the Championship, which will take place at Olympia Fields Country Club in Olympia Fields, Ill., August 17-23, 2015.
