ST. SIMONS ISLAND, G.A. — Tracy Marshall of Canton and Beth Williams of Atlanta combined for an 8-under-par 134 (70-64) to win the Georgia Women’s Team Championship. The 30th playing of the annual competition took place at Sea Palms Golf Resort, September 21-22.
Marshall and Williams finished one stroke ahead of the runner-ups, Danielle Davis of St. Simons Island and Ginette Spinucci of Stone Mountain, who finished at 7-under-par 135 (70-65). This marks the second win at this event for Marshall and Williams, with the first coming in 2007 at Doublegate Country Club in Albany. They earned it over a duo who has teamed up four previous times to win – Davis and Spinucci were victorious in 2009, 2010, 2011 and 2013.
Jirapon Carlson of Macon and Marilyn Nolan-Johnson of Marietta finished third in the Gross division at even-par 142 (73-69). The defending champions, Deb Jackson of Johns Creek and Alice Richardson of Alpharetta, came in fourth at 2-over-par 144 (76-68). Mary Riley of Perry and Gwen Young of Cochran posted a 4-over-par 146 (75-71) to finish fifth. Rounding out the Gross division was Kelly Hnatt of St. Simons Island and LeeAnn Muller of Atlanta, who came in sixth at 14-over-par 156 (82-74).
In the Net division, two teams finished at 6-under-par 136 to share flight one honors – Lisa Montgomery and Criss Stillwagon, both of St. Simons Island, (64-72), and Ann Clark of Centerville and Dawn Young of Douglasville (64-72). Jane Kelly and Donna McMikle, both of Albany, (67-70), and Melissa Dickens and Traci Roland, both of Alpharetta, (64-73), tied for the top spot in flight two at 5-under-par 137. In the third flight, Pam Mitchell and Farah Reynolds, both of Atlanta, won at 3-under-par 139 (68-71). Dana Carpenter and Jeanne Follett, both of Kathleen, earned flight honors in flight four at 1-under-par 141 (61-80). Rounding out the Net division, Liz Demato and Joy Pozek, both of St. Simons Island, claimed flight five at 2-over-par 144 (66-78).
Entries were open to two-person teams of female amateur golfers who are at least 18 years old as of September 21. A maximum stroke differential of eight strokes was allowed between partners (if the differential was higher than eight strokes, the higher index was adjusted down to eight strokes).
