OPELIKA, Ala. — Georgia senior Davis Thompson picked up the third individual title of his collegiate career on Wednesday in the Tiger Invitational presented by Jason Dufner.
Also on Wednesday, Thompson retained his No. 1 position in the World Amateur Golf Ranking. He has been atop the WAGR for five consecutive weeks.
Davis Thompson, a senior from nearby Auburn, wound up at 10-under 206, including a final-round 1-over 73, on Grand National’s par-72, 7,289-yard Lake Course.
Thompson’s final round, which began Tuesday and ended Wednesday due to inclement weather, included a birdie on No. 17 to pull into the lead.
“I played well on Monday (with rounds of 5-under 67 and 6-under 66) to put myself into position to win,” Thompson said. “I tried to have a solid attitude with all the rain Tuesday and I hit a lot of good shots, but the putts just weren’t dropping. I was able to make two solid putts today — one for birdie and one for par — and I’m just thankful I got a share of the win.”
Thompson previously won the NCAA Athens Regional during the 2018-19 season and the Jim Rivers Invitational in the 2019-20 campaign.
He lowered his Southeastern Conference-leading scoring average to 69.50 during the Tiger Invitational. Eleven of his 17 rounds have been in the 60s.
