KENNESAW, Ga. – Kennesaw State women’s golf freshman Medy Thavong collected her first career Atlantic Sun Conference Women’s Golfer of the Week accolade after registering her first top 15 finish in a collegiate event at the 2015 Lady Paladin Invitational, the league announced on Thursday (Sept. 24).
Thavong led the Owls to an eighth place finish in a strong field in the Furman University-hosted event, as she posted the low KSU round on two of the three days en route to a 14th place finish with a six-over par total of 222.
“I am very proud of Medy for earning the recognition of player of the week,” said head coach Rhyll Brinsmead. “In just her second collegiate tournament she really stepped up when we needed her and she definitely earned this honor. I am very excited to watch Medy progress through her freshman year and continue to earn additional honors.”
The Prachinburi, Thailand native opened the three-day tournament with a three-over par 75 that saw her connect on three birdies, before upping her birdie total to four in an even-par 72 in her second round – her lowest round of the season. The rookie then wrapped the event with a three-over par 75 in her final round on Tuesday (Sept. 22nd)
Through the first two events of the season, Thavong owns a 76.16 stroke average in her freshman campaign for the Owls.
Thavong and the Owls will break for two weeks before returning to action at the CSU Invitational at Rivertowne, hosted by Charleston Southern on Oct. 5-6 in Charleston, S.C.
