JOHNS CREEK, G.A.–In a remarkable display of maturity and prowess, 14-year old Preston Topper won the golf Club Championship at The Standard Club in John’s Creek recently, besting a field of 17 players in the championship flight, many of them four to five times his young age.
Topper fired a three-day total of 10-under par across the 7,000-yard course, including an opening round of 64, one shot off the course record. The runner-up, Seth Toporek, finished 13 shots back and did not break par.
Topper, who will enter high school in the fall, competes on both the AJGA Tour and Southeast Junior Golf Tour, where he has two tournament wins and eight Top 5 finishes. He recently finished tied for 4th in the Junior Masters, a prestigious event played recently in Dothan, Al. Topper is an alternate qualifier for the U.S. Junior Amateur Championship, to be played July 20-25 at Colleton River Plantation Golf Club in Bluffton, S.C.
