Entering the day in 10th place, the Columbus State University women’s golf team vaulted up the leader board taking fifth at the Rock Barn Collegiate Invitational. The two-day event was played at the Rock Barn Golf & Spa Club in Conover, N.C.
The Lady Cougars posted a final round 297, an improvement of 27 strokes from Monday’s first round. The fifth place finish matches the best finish of the season for CSU, accomplished at the Montevallo Full Moon BBQ Invitational in September.
Three different Lady Cougars recorded their best rounds of the season on Tuesday led by freshman Courtney Lowery. The LaGrange native was one-over par in the final round (72) finishing nine-over for the tournament in 16th place.
Sophomore Kaitie Cross matched Lowery in round one, then followed it up with a season best 75 on Tuesday. Cross ended 25th overall at 12-over par.
Ciera Bagley made the biggest jump of the final day for CSU knocking 11 strokes off her first round score. The junior shot 85 in round one before a 74 on Tuesday. The Baxley native tied for 35th at 17-over.
Steph Charteris and Jodi Henley also each improved in round two. Charteris closed out Columbus State’s team score on Tuesday with a five-over par 76. Henley shot the drop score for the second straight day, but was six shots better in the final round with a 10-over 81. Charteris and Henley finished 30th and 49th, respectively.
Columbus State has now completed its fall schedule and will have a few months off before playing again in the spring. The spring schedule will be announced at a later date.
