STATESBORO, GA. – Georgia Southern’s Jake Storey won medalist honors, while Brett Barron and Cody O’Toole placed in the top-5 Tuesday at the Georgia Southern Individual Collegiate at Georgia Southern University Golf Course.
Storey shot 74 today to finish 8-under for the tournament and post a four-stroke win over Phillip Hickam (-4) of Chattanooga. Barron (-3) carded a 71 to finish third, and O’Toole (-1) shot a 71 to take fifth. Priyanshu Singh (-2) of South Florida took fourth.
“The purpose of this event was to compete, gain experience and continue our preparations for the spring season, and all were a success this week,” said Georgia Southern coach Carter Collins. “Congratulations to Jake, who picked up his first collegiate win with an impressive 8-under. Winning is very hard in this sport, and he played a solid round to get it done and win by four. Congratulations also to Brett Barron and Cody O’Toole on joining Jake on the All-Tournament team.”
Eight of the nine Eagles who competed in the tournament placed in the top-20 of the 44-man field. Steven Fisk (+1) shot 69 to move up to 10th, and Archer Price (+3) carded a 74 to finish 11th. Luukas Alakulppi (+4) carded a 73 to tie for 12th, and Jonas Vaisanen (+7) shot 72 and tied for 16th.
Crawford Simmons (+10) tied for 20th and Alexander DeRosa (+20) finished 31st.
“Overall, results were solid – we had three out of the top-5 and six out of the top-12 overall finishers,” added Collins. “I’m proud of their hard work leading up this event and the progression they are continuing to make throughout the year.
“Big thank you to Marten Olsson and his entire professional staff as well as Patrick Reinhardt and his maintenance staff. The course was in tremendous condition and the professional staff helped us every step of the way.”
The Eagles return to action at the Gator Invitational Feb. 18-19.
