JOHNS CREEK, Ga. – On a tough Atlanta Athletic Club Highlands Course, the Georgia State women’s golf team opened the season Tuesday (September 8th, 2015) finishing sixth at the Louisville Invitational. Sophomore Yasemin Sari led the Panthers with a tie for 21st.
The Panthers shot rounds of 327 and 320 in the one-day, 36-hole event.
After an opening round 76, Sari shot an afternoon 82 to finish at 14-over to lead Georgia State.
Junior Solene LeCoz rebounded after a tough opening round 85 with an afternoon 75 that included six birdies to finish 23rd at 16-over.
Senior Julie Lied fired rounds of 77 and 90 to tie for 24th at 23-over. Sophomore Paul Zabarte added rounds of 89 and 80 to tie for 27th at 25-over, while junior Jooeun Bae finished in 32nd following rounds of 93 and 83.
Freshmen Jemima Gregson and Gloria Zeitler competed as individuals and made their collegiate debuts tying for 27th at 25-over. Gregson shot rounds of 89 and 80, while Zeitler added rounds of 84 and 85.
Georgia shot rounds of 292 and 284 to finish at even par and win the event by 15 strokes. No. 43 Louisville finished second at 15-over par, followed by No. 8 Tennessee in third at 18-over.
Louisville’s Katie Mitchell shot 66-72 to finish at 6-under to earn the individual title by one stroke over Georgia’s Harang Lee who finished at 5-under after rounds of 71 and 68. The duo were the only two golfers in the field to finish under par. Tennessee’s Anna Newell finished third at 1-over par, followed by Georgia’s Manuela Carbajo Re in fourth at 4-over.
Georgia State will now take three weeks off before returning to action at the Jacksonville Classic hosted by Jacksonville at Marsh Landing Golf Club, Sept. 28-29.
