JACKSONVILLE, Nc.— Elizabeth Powell finished two strokes off medalist honors, and the Oglethorpe women’s golf team wrapped up day three of Camp Lejeune Sunday, taking third in an elite field of 11 teams.
The Petrels had control with an eight-stroke lead at the end of round two but could not hold on as Rose-Hulman shot Sunday’s low round by 11 strokes to take the team title.
Powell, who was two strokes off the lead at the end of Saturday, shot 74-74-80 to take solo fourth. Sophia Morettini (80-80-79) took solo 10th, and Abrianna Carstens (82-77-86) and Hannah Erwig (79-79-87) tied for 16th.
Tournament Notes
Oglethorpe finished second in the field in par 5 scoring, third in the field in par 4 scoring and fourth in the field in par 3 scoring.
Powell was top four in all three scoring categories, including second in par 4 scoring and 2 over par in par 5 scoring.
Erwig was in the top 15 in par 3 scoring at 5 over, and Carstens was top 15 in par 5 scoring at 4 over. Morettini was fifth in par 4 scoring at 12 over.
Oglethorpe posted 14 birdies which was good for third in the field. Morettini and Powell had five apiece of those to finish second in that category.

Oglethorpe heads to the Southern Athletic Association Championships, set for Friday-Sunday, April 26-28. The event is hosted by Sewanee and scheduled for 54 holes at Greystone Golf Club.
