FORT WORTH, Texas — Georgia freshman Trent Phillips continued his streak of consecutive rounds in the 60s to start his career during the Nike Golf Collegiate Invitational on Sunday.
Phillips carded a 1-under 69 in the first round of the Nike Golf Collegiate Invitational being played on the par-70, 7,204-yard layout at Colonial Country Club. Phillips stands fifth individually, three shots shy of Vanderbilt’s Mason Greenberg.
Phillips, a rookie from Inman, S.C., posted rounds of 68, 64 and 69 in The Carmel Cup earlier this month, giving him a season average of 67.5.
As a team, the Bulldogs landed 12th at 12-over 292 after the first day. Vanderbilt has the team lead at 1-over 281, followed by Clemson and Wake Forest at 282.
Junior Will Chandler followed Phillips with a 3-over 73. Redshirt junior Tye Waller and sophomore Davis Thompson each signed for a 5-over 75. Junior Spencer Ralston had the Bulldogs’ non-counting score of 7-over 77.
Georgia will be paired with TCU and Oklahoma for the second round on Monday, with tee times set for 9-minute increments between 9:30 and 10:06 a.m. Live results can be found at Golfstat.com.
