PEBBLE BEACH, Calif. — Georgia senior golfer Trent Phillips placed second in The Carmel Cup on Sunday.
On the par-72, 6,828-yard Pebble Beach Golf Links layout, Phillips finished regulation tied at 10-under 206 with Oklahoma’s Logan McAllister as he signed for a final-round 2-under 70. McAllister then topped Phillips on the first playoff hole for the title.
As a team, the 14th-ranked Bulldogs came in sixth at even-par 1,080, including a 4-over 364 on Sunday. Oklahoma State claimed the team championship at 18-under 1,062, followed by Oklahoma at 17-under 1,063, and Arkansas at 13-under 1,067.
Junior Nicolas Cassidy and freshman Buck Brumlow posted even-par 72s on Sunday, while senior Will Kahlstorf registered a 2-over 74, and freshman Maxwell Ford had a 4-over 76. Senior Eli Scott had the Bulldogs’ drop score of 5-over 77.
Cassidy came in 14th at 2-under 214 and Ford took 20th at even-par 216. Brumlow landed at 3-over 219, followed by Kahlstorf at 9-over 225 and Scott at 17-over 233.
The Bulldogs will return to action Sept. 20-21 in the Scenic City Collegiate at the Honors Course in Ooltewah, Tenn.
“It was good to get back into competition,” Georgia head coach Chris Haack said. “That type of experience is invaluable. We had some ups and downs this weekend, so we’ll get back to work in Athens to get ready for the next one.”
