WOLCOTT, Colo. – The Kennesaw State women’s golf team put together a strong showing at the Golfweek Challenge, hosted by the Red Sky Golf Club from Sept. 23-25. The Owls finished seventh with a three-day total of 872 (289+292+291=872).
“I am so proud of the team for their play this week. With four new players in the lineup, including three freshmen, we knew there would be some nerves, but they all handled the pressure of competition exceptionally well,” said Head Coach Rhyll Brinsmead.
Played on the Fazio course, the 54-hole stroke play tournament was a Par 72 and 6320 yards. KSU finished +8 and ahead of the likes of NC State, Nebraska, SMU, and others. Ole Miss took home top honors with an 849 and was 15 under-par.
Meva Schmit finished in a tie for eighth overall with a 211 (69+69+73=211) in her first performance donning the Black and Gold. “Meva was amazing this week and I couldn’t be happier for her. To finish her first college event five under-par and in the top 10 is a well-deserved achievement,” said Brinsmead. “She has put try work in and executed like a seasoned pro.”
Tai Anudit shot a final day low of 69 (-3) and finished 24th overall with a 219 (72+78+69=219).Clara Aveling and Bella Kil each carded a 225 to place 48th. Aveling was at par on the final day (76+77+72=225), and Kil’s best day was Monday when she was even (72+74+79).Tori Owens was 77th with a 234 (85+72+77).
The Owls are back in action Monday, Oct. 7, at the Illini Women’s Invitational at Medinah.
