KENNESAW, Ga. – The Augusta Jaguars secured their seventh top-10 finish in their seventh event of the year with a second-place showing at the Henssler Financial Intercollegiate at Pinetree Country Club on Tuesday (March 29th, 2016). Jags junior Josefine Nyqvist tied for first place at five-over par to pace the team.
No. 34 Augusta and the 12-team field started in a shotgun format for the opening 36 holes on Monday afternoon and the Jags secured a tie for second place with Illinois heading into the final round with No. 26 Texas Tech leading.
Texas Tech held on to their safe lead to win the team title on the par-72, 6,032-yard course at 26-over par. Augusta finished 10 strokes back at 36 over and carded second place ahead of Illinois in third (+42). Middle Tennessee climbed up to finish fourth and Chattanooga notched fifth for the top five finishing teams.
Nyqvist shot 74 (+2) and 72 (E) in day one and a 75 (+3) in round three to tie for first with three other competitors at five-over par. Nyqvist tied for first with Troy’s Fatima Cano and Texas Tech’s Lauren Mason.
Junior Eunice Yi was close behind and took fourth in the field of 70 with her second even-par 72 of the tournament. Nyqvist and Yi each had three birdies in round three.
Augusta junior Jessica Haigwood fired three birdies from hole 15-18 and ended with a 73 (+1) – her low round of the event to tie for 17th 12 shots above par. Teresa Caballer-Hernani turned in a 78 in the final out to take 24th and freshman Cecilia Diez-Moliner tied for 59th at 27-over par.
The field included Augusta, Chattanooga, East Tennessee State, Georgetown, Illinois, Kennesaw State, Mercer, Middle Tennessee State, Old Dominion, South Florida, Texas Tech, and Troy.
