MINNEAPOLIS, M.N. – The GRU Augusta women’s golf team finished in a tie for seventh place with Colorado at 40-over par in their first event of the new season at the Minnesota Invitational at the Minikahda Club on September 15th, 2015.
Purdue hung on to their day-one lead and won the event at 20-over par on the par-72, 6,119-yard course. East Carolina finished second, Illinois third, Kent State and Minnesota tied for fourth, Houston sixth, GRU Augusta and Houston even in seventh, TCU ninth, Texas 10th, Kentucky 11th, and Kansas round out the 12-team field.
GRU Augusta shot a 12-over 300 as a team in round one and a 13-over 301 in round two. The Jags ended the two-day event at 40 shots above par with a final 904 team score after shooting 303 in round three.
Jags junior Josefine Nyqvist remained in the top 10 and placed eighth to finish six-over par as she lead the squad. Nyqvist shot her second-straight 75 (+3) in round three with two more birdies on the first three holes and Teresa Caballer Hernani signed for another 77 in the final round and took a tie for 20th overall.
Junior Jessica Haigwood matched her round one score with a 75 (+3) in round three to card a tie for 30th overall. Sophomore Sonya Knebel matched her low round of the event for the Jags with a 76 (+4) highlighted by one birdie on the front and back nine to finish tied for 34th overall. Junior Eunice Yi tied for 52nd overall.
GRU Augusta had 30 combined birdies over the event.
