SIMONS ISLAND, Ga.— Jackson Hiller fired a 68 on the final round, and the No. 3 Oglethorpe men’s golf team scorched round two and won the Jekyll Island Collegiate at King and Prince Sunday. Hiller was three strokes off medalist honors, finishing third as an individual at 1 under par over the three-round event.
Oglethorpe made a huge move on Saturday to move up to the lead after shooting a 6 under par 278 on the middle round. The counting scores that day were a blistering 68-69-70-71, all par or better.
Beck Lewis, who had the team’s 68 to lead day two, finished in the top 10 at T7 after carding rounds of 72-68-76. Michael O’Sullivan (79-69-75) and Sam Karman (77-70-76) landed in the top 40, both at T39, and Ryan Dunn (77-71-76) took 44th overall.
Scores were elevated Sunday due to windy conditions, but Oglethorpe still managed to shoot the second best score of the day at 295.
The event, hosted by Oglethorpe, saw many of the nation’s top teams, including No. 1 Methodist, No. 2 Emory, No. 3 Oglethorpe, No. 4 Illinois Wesleyan, No. 5 Carnegie Mellon, No. 6 Washington and Lee, No. 7 Lynchburg, No. 9 Sewanee, No. 11 Claremont-Mudd-Scripps, No. 13 Huntingdon, No. 18 Kenyon, No. 20 Christopher Newport, No. 22 Guilford, No. 24 Rochester and No. 25 Hampden-Sydney.
This marked Oglethorpe’s third event win of the season and fourth finish in the top two through seven events on the schedule.
Tournament Notes
- Oglethorpe led the field in par 4 and par 5 scoring, the latter at an eye-popping 13 under par. The team also led in birdies with 49, four more than any other team, and posted one of 10 eagles recorded over the weekend.
- O’Sullivan had Oglethorpe’s eagle during round two on the par 5 18th.
- Hiller shot even par on the par 4’s, one stroke off the lead and in second place.
- O’Sullivan and Karman each shot 4 under on the par 5’s, tying for third in that category, while Lewis shot 3 under on par 5’s, tying for 12th.
- Lewis also shot even on the par 3’s.
- Hiller tallied 13 birdies while Karman tallied 11. Lewis led the field in pars with 34 across the 54-hole event.

Oglethorpe heads to Camp Lejeune for the Camp Lejeune Marine Intercollegiate Friday-Sunday, April 5-7. It will be one of three events left on the schedule prior to the Southern Athletic Association Championships, which are Friday-Sunday, April 26-28.
