KENNESAW, G.A. – After turning in a career performance to lead the Kennesaw State women’s golf team to a top five finish at the Florida State Match-Up over the weekend, freshman Henriette Nielsen earned her first career Atlantic Sun Conference Golfer of the Week accolade, the league announced on Wednesday (Feb. 18) afternoon.
“I am very proud of Henriette for earning her first player of the week honor,” said head coach Rhyll Brinsmead. “She has been working very hard this offseason and these results were well deserved. I am excited to see Henriette progress this spring and continue to post low numbers.”
It was the third A-Sun Golfer of the Week accolade the Owls have collected this season, with seniors Kaew Preamchuen and Ines Lescudier also taking home honors in the fall.
Nielsen set a career best finish after tying for 14th at the Florida State Match-Up on Sunday. After opening with a 76, the freshman recorded back-to-back career lows in her second and third rounds at the tournament, starting a two-over par on Saturday after registering birdies on two of her final three holes. She then followed up that performance with a two-under par 70 in a final round that included six birdies, including four in the final six holes, to finish the tournament with a career-best four-over par 54-hole total of 220.
With Soro, Denmark native’s help, the Owls turned in a season-low one-under par 287 in their final round and finished the tournament with a season-low 54-hole 21-over par total of 885. The Owls missed out on a tie for second place by only two strokes and bested No. 38 Florida State and No. 42 Coastal Carolina in the process, while also tying No. 16 Texas A&M in the team standings.
Nielsen and the Owls will next break from competition for two weeks, before traveling to Coral Gables, Florida, for the Hurricane Invitational, hosted by the University of Miami on March 2-4, 2015 at the Biltmore Golf Course.
