TUCSON, Ariz. – The Augusta University women’s golf team played in the Wildcat Invitational March 5-6 at Sewailo Golf Club and the Jaguars finished tied for seventh place with No. 40 Denver at 28-over-par.
The 16-team field started with two rounds on Monday at the par-72, 6,494-yard course and wrapped it up on Tuesday with round three. Augusta was in sixth place 9-over-par through the first two rounds and finished with a 307 (+28) in round three to take seventh.
Ranked No. 1 in the nation, UCLA had a 10-shot lead at 14-under-par after 36 holes and won the event at 17-under-par. No. 21 Arizona placed second (-8), No. 7 Texas third (-4), Long Beach State fourth (+17), and UNLV was fifth (+21) for the top scoring squads.
The event had seven teams ranked top 50 in the nation.
Jags sophomore Linda Lundqvist placed seventh overall and finished 2-under-par after shooting 73 (+1), 69 (-3), and 72 (E). Junior Cecilia Diez-Moliner gave AU a tie for 30th (+7), sophomore Charlotte Alran carded 55th (+13), freshman Teresa Diez-Moliner tied for 62nd (+15), and junior Maggie Ashmore rounded out the Jags in 75th (+18).
Next up, the Jaguars host the 13th annual 3M Augusta Invitational March 16-18 at Forest Hills Golf Club in Augusta, Ga.
