ATLANTA, Ga. — After clinching another automatic bid with its third straight Southern Athletic Association Championship title, the No. 4 Oglethorpe men’s golf team is nationals bound.
The Stormy Petrels qualified for the 23rd consecutive time and will head west to the national championship event next week with the program’s third national title in their sights.
Championship Information
- Tuesday-Friday, May 14-17, at Boulder Creek Golf Club in Boulder City, Nevada
- Hosted by UNLV and the Las Vegas Convention and Visitors Authority
- Forty-three teams and six individuals not on one of those teams have been selected to participate in the championships.
- The team and individual champions will be determined after 72 holes of play or the conclusion of the last fully completed round.
- After 36 holes of competition, the field will be cut to the top 18 teams and top six individuals not on one of those teams.

Season Notes
- Oglethorpe won five tournaments this year, including three out of the last four. The five tournament wins is second most in program history trailing only the 2013 team which won seven tournaments.
- Most recently, the Petrels ran away with the SAA Championship for the third straight year. Beck Lewis won co-medalist honors.
- The Petrels also won the SAA Fall Preview back in September and the West Pines Collegiate in October.
- Oglethorpe has been ranked in the top four all season, spending most of the season at No. 3 This marked its highest national ranking since winning the NCAA Division III national title in 2012. The Stormy Petrels enter the national championship at No. 4 nationally.
- Three Petrels have received SAA athlete of the week nods.
- Head Coach Jim Owen won SAA coach of the year honors for the third straight year. He has won SAA coach of the year eight times in 11 seasons the award has been recognized, and he is a 19-time conference coach of the year overall.
