AIKEN, S.C. – The Augusta University men’s golf team tied for sixth place with Memphis in The Cleveland Golf Palmetto Intercollegiate at Palmetto Golf Club. Augusta finished 19-over par in the 18-team field.
Teams played two rounds on Monday on the par-70, 6,617-yard course and the Jaguars shot even-par (280) in round one and dropped six shots in round two with a 274. AU was 6-under par and three strokes behind first-place Virginia to start the final day on Tuesday. Battling rainy conditions that forced a delay, Augusta shot a 25-over 30 in the third round to share sixth place with Memphis.
Virginia won the tourney at even par, while Georgia Southern grabbed second place (+9), host USC Aiken was third (+15), UAB fourth (+16), and East Carolina fifth (+17). GSU’s Jake Storey won the individual title 3-under-par.
Augusta senior Broc Everett had a 1-shot lead over the 90-man field after day one and he finished tie for seventh at even par. Everett matched his low round of the year with a 4-under-par 66 in round one and shot 67 (-3) in round two.
AU freshman Alex Shead tied for 17th (+5), freshman Olof Gunnarsson tied for 38th (+10), freshman Laken Hinton tied for 44th (+11), and sophomore-transfer McCullough Pickens tied for 61st in his first tourney as a Jaguar – highlighted by a 68 (-2) in round two.
The Jaguars play at the Linger Longer Invitational, March 18-20, at Great Waters Reynolds Plantation in Eatonton, Ga. The event is co-hosted by Kennesaw State & Mercer.
