Gainesville, GA — Was he playing the same course? PGA Associate Greg Edwards from East Lake Golf Club fired a competitive course record 9-under par 63 yesterday in round one of the Milton Martin Honda Classic on the newly renovated and remodeled Chattahoochee Golf Course. He tried to match that in round two but came up a couple shots short with a 7-under par 65.
Edwards finished at an unbelievable 16-under par 128 over two days to win by 14 shots over Anthony Cordes, PGA Assistant Professional at Cherokee Town & Country Club. Edwards carded 16 birdies and an eagle against just two bogeys over 36-holes. Finishing in third at 1-under par was PGA Associate Jin Chung from Chateau Elan Golf Club. Rounding out the top five tied at even par 144 was PGA Associate Paxton Shuman from Doublegate Country Club and Low Amateur R.B. Clyburn of Cartersville.
For his efforts, Edwards earned the first-place check of $1,600. Defending champion, James Mason of Dillard fired rounds of 72 and 74 to finish in a tie for 9th place.
