STATESBORO – Women’s golf coach Mimi Burke announced today that Mia Kness has joined the staff as an assistant coach.
Kness helped lead the Eagles to the 2022 Sun Belt Championship by tying for second in the conference championship, her best finish as an Eagle. She was named the 2021-22 Sun Belt Newcomer of the Year and Sun Belt Championship All-Tournament after competing in the lineup in all 11 tournaments and helping the Eagles to two team wins and three runner-up finishes.
“I’m so excited to get Mia back home to the Boro,” said Burke. “Mia brings a lot of love for Georgia Southern, knowledge and experience that will help our team continue on its path to the national stage. I’m looking forward to the start of her new career and what we can accomplish together. The future is very bright! Hail Southern!”
Kness transferred to Georgia Southern from Seton Hall, where she compiled a 75.52 career scoring average with two victories, five top-5 finishes, nine top-10s and 15 career top-20s. Her career scoring average still ranks second in Seton Hall program history. Kness spent the 2022-23 academic year serving as the Director of Championships for the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference.
“It’s an honor and privilege to be back at Georgia Southern,” said Kness. “I can’t thank Coach Mimi enough for giving me this opportunity to be a part of the team. I can’t wait to get the ball rolling and get back to Statesboro. Hail Southern!”
Georgia Southern finished fourth at the Sun Belt Championship in April and is set to return five letterwinners to the 2023-24 roster, including Haley Yerxa, the league’s 2023 Newcomer of the Year and second-team all-conference selection, and Abby Newton a two-time first-team all-league honoree.
