KIAWAH ISLAND, S.C. – The Georgia Southern men’s golf team fired a third-round total of 290, the lowest round of the day by seven strokes, to win the title at The Invitational at The Ocean Course Saturday, September 12th, 2015.
In his debut tournament as an Eagle, junior transfer Cody O’Toole (-4) shot a 3-under 69 today and finished second in the individual standings, one stroke behind medalist William Rainey (-5) of College of Charleston. Steven Fisk (+2) carded a 74 today and finished tied for fourth in his first collegiate tournament. Fisk tied for the tournament lead in birdies with 14, and O’Toole tied for second with 12. The duo were second in par-4 scoring at 2-under.
The Eagles topped second-place College of Charleston (+13) by four strokes, while Kentucky (+24) and UAB tied for third. North Carolina State (+26) placed fifth.
Jake Storey shot a 73 today and tied for 28th, while Archer Price shot a 74 and tied for 25th. Henry Mabbett shot an 83, Andrew Klasing posted an 84 and Jonas Vaisanen carded an 81 as an individual. It was 6-count-4 scoring, meaning six players are in the lineup, and the four lowest scores each round count for the team total.
Next up, the Eagles head to the Sun Belt Preview and revisit the Raven Course, sight of last season’s Sun Belt Championship, which Georgia Southern won. The tournament runs Sept. 26-27 in Destin, Fla.
