Free Admission for Active and Retired Military to PGA TOUR Event
ST. SIMONS ISLAND, Ga., – Oct. 15, 2013 – Demonstrating its support and appreciation for military personnel, the Davis Love Foundation is again offering U.S. Armed Forces free admission to The McGladrey Classic, an official PGA TOUR FedExCup event. Active and retired service men and women with a valid military identification card can attend the competitive rounds of The McGladrey Classic, Nov. 7-10, at no charge. With tournament dates in close proximity to Veteran’s Day, there are also discounted ticket prices for those who have served but do not have retired status.
Held at Sea Island Golf Club in Georgia’s beautiful Golden Isles, The McGladrey Classic is one of the first events of the 2013-2014 PGA TOUR season. Attracting players, spectators and volunteers from across the globe, The McGladrey Classic provides a full week of world-class golf and family-friendly events. The tournament is named for title sponsor McGladrey LLP, the nation’s leading provider of assurance, tax and consulting services focused on the middle market.
“We are proud to pay tribute to the military personnel who serve our country,” said Scott Reid, McGladrey Classic Tournament Director. “With bases of all five branches of the military located in Georgia, we feel this is a small way to honor and express our gratitude to these brave men and women.”
In addition to free admission, The McGladrey Classic will provide active and retired military access to the Military Outpost, a special hospitality venue located on the ninth green, featuring great views and complimentary food and non-alcoholic beverages. They will also receive a special discounted ticket price to the live concert by Toby Keith on Wednesday, Nov. 6 at 7 p.m.
All fans are encouraged to show their support of the military by wearing red, white and blue on Military Appreciation Day, Saturday, Nov. 9. The day will begin with St. Simons Island resident and recording artist Christine Vales singing the national anthem at the first tee box. Activities also include cadets from the Junior ROTC programs at Brunswick High School and Glynn Academy welcoming guests and active military serving as pin holders on the 9 and 18 greens.
As part of military appreciation events and for the second year, the Davis Love Foundation will host a group of Wounded Warriors during The McGladrey Classic. This year’s group includes Marines from Camp LeJeune in Jacksonville, N.C. and Army soldiers from Ft. Stewart, Ga. and Fort Lewis. Wash., all of whom are Purple Heart recipients. Organized by retired Army Col. John Campbell through his Kids Incorporated Foundation and the support of numerous local and national sponsors, this special trip to the Golden Isles is a four-day getaway for these Wounded Warriors and their spouses and children.
