ATHENS, G.A. — Lee McCoy and Sepp Straka, who led Georgia to the team title at the Puerto Rico Classic, have been chosen as Southeastern Conference Golfers of the Week, according to an announcement Wednesday by the league office.
McCoy and Straka each shot 5-under 211 to pace the Bulldogs to a 7-shot victory over Georgia Tech in Puerto Rico. They shared SEC Golfer of the Week honors with Arkansas’ Kolton Crawford.
McCoy, a junior from Clarkesville, Ga., leads the SEC with a scoring average of 69.25 and he is ranked fourth nationally (first among SEC golfers) in the Golfweek individual rankings. A few days before departing for Puerto Rico, McCoy came in third in the PGA Tour’s Northern Trust Open Collegiate in California. A redshirt junior from Valdosta, G.A., Straka is ranked seventh in the SEC and second among the Bulldogs with a scoring average of 71.58.
The Bulldogs will return to action March 9-11th, 2015, in the Southern Highlands Collegiate Masters in Las Vegas, N.V.
