STATESBORO, Ga. – Led by a 2-under 70 from Max Herrmann, Georgia State shot a final round 3-over 291 to finish in 13th-place at the Schenkel Invitational at Forest Heights Country Club on Sunday.
Herrmann’s round was highlighted by an eagle-3 on the Par 5 7th hole as he finished the 54-hole event at even par and tied for 32nd.
Junior Nick Budd finished tied for 17th at 2-under par following a final round 74.
“We had some good rounds this week, but not nearly enough to finish in the top half of the leaderboard,” head coach Chad Wilson said. “We had some positives, but we have stuff we will need to clean up before we return to the course next weekend.”
Junior Nathan Williams added a 1-over 73 to finish tied for 37th at 1-over par. Junior Severin Soller shot a 2-over 74 on Sunday and tied for 59th, while sophomore Josh Edgar shot 75 to finish in 75th-place at 11-over par.
Competing as an individual, freshman Peter Chung shot a 75 in the final round and finished tied for 59th at 6-over par.
Vanderbilt cruised to an eight-stroke win following a final round 282 which left the Commodores at 29-under par for the event. Host Georgia Southern finished in second-place at 21-under par, with NC State coming in third at 14-under par. Mississippi State finished in fourth-place at 13-under par, with Kentucky rounding out the top five at 12-under par.
Vanderbilt’s Theo Humphrey shot a final round 68 to finish at 13-under par and earn low medalist honors. Georgia Southern teammates Jake Storey and Archer Price, along with NC State’s Stephen Franken tied for second place at 11-under par. Vanderbilt’s Will Gordon and Mississippi State’s Taylor Grant tied for fifth at 9-under par.
Georgia State will return to the course March 25-27, for the Hootie at Bulls Bay hosted by the Hootie and the Blowfish Foundation in Awendaw, S.C.
