Norman, Okla. – Georgia Tech sophomore Christo Lamprecht is ranked No. 7 among collegiate players under consideration to be compete the International team for the 2022 Arnold Palmer Cup.
This ranking includes all competitions through April 12. The top six golfers from the spring’s final ranking from both the United States and International men and women shall be among the individuals selected to compete in the Palmer Cup. Longtime Arnold Palmer partner Rolex is continuing its 50-plus year relationship through its support of the matches, which will be hosted by Golf Club de Genève July 1-3, 2022.
Lamprecht has posted five top-10 finishes in nine events this year, including ties for fourth at The Calusa Cup (214, -2), eighth (203, -7) at The Goodwin and second at the Southern Highlands Collegiate (205, -11) in Tech’s last three tournaments this spring. He tied for 42nd at Tech’s spring opener (Amer Ari Intercollegiate) and 23rd at the Watersound Invitational. In the fall, Lamprecht was runner-up at the Maui Jim Intercollegiate with a program-record 54-hole score of 194 (-16), tied for 10th at the Windon Memorial and 14th at the Hamptons Intercollegiate.
The sophomore from George, South Africa, tops among the Jacket regulars in stroke average at an even 69.89 over 27 rounds and is currently Tech’s highest-ranked player in the college golf – No. 32 by Golfstat and No. 35 the Golfweek/Sagarin Index. He Holds a 10-12-3 head-to-head record against the nation’s top 20 collegiate golfers as ranked by Golfstat.
The 6-foot-8 Lamprecht holds a current ranking of No. 71 in the World Amateur Golf Ranking and No. 56 in the Scratch Players World Amateur Ranking.
Using Golfstat’s NCAA Player Ranking as a base, the Arnold Palmer Cup Ranking awards bonus points for wins and high finishes and a penalty for poor finishes. The ranking also contains a strength of schedule component.
The remaining six spots for the United States will consist of five committee picks, including at least one non-Division I golfer, and a coaches’ pick. The balance of the International team also includes five committee selections, including at least one representative from The R&A Student Tour Series, and a coaches’ pick.
If selected, Lamprecht would be the 11th different Georgia Tech golfer to compete in the annual competition, and the first to represent the International team. He represented his home country in the 2021 Spirit International which was held in Trinity, Texas, as well as the 2017 and 2019 Junior Presidents Cup matches.
The 2022 Arnold Palmer Cup teams will be announced on April 19.
