CORAL GABLES, F.L. – Senior Ines Lescudier led the Kennesaw State women’s golf team in its final round of the Hurricane Invitational as the Owls placed 14th with a 41-over par tournament total 893 in the 16-team Miami-hosted tournament, held at the par-71, 6,070-yard Biltmore Golf Course.
“We are incredibly disappointed in our play and this result,” said head coach Rhyll Brinsmead. “This was not the way we saw this tournament finish. Ines was the highlight of today, but even she faltered with a double on the seventh hole. If we are going to contend we cannot compound mistakes like we did today. With that said, we have a quick turnaround to our next event and we cannot linger on this. We will regroup, analysis why we struggled, make a plan and get back on track next week.”
The Owls fired a 16-over par 300 in its third and final round with Lescudier posting the top finish for KSU for the fifth time this season with an eight-over par total of 221 to tie for 27th and carded an even-par 71 in her final round.
Freshman Henriette Nielsen registered her second-straight top-40 finish after tying for 39th with a 10-over par tournament total of 223 after a three-over par 74 on Wednesday.
Senior Kaew Preamchuen turned in a six-over par 77 to finish the tournament tied for 48th with a 12-over par total of 225, while sophomore Laura Estefenn wrapped up the three-day event in a tie for 59th with a 15-over par score of 228 and recorded a seven-over par 78 in her final round. Classmate Dulcie Sverdloff also fired a 78 on Wednesday to place in a tie for 62nd with a 16-over par 229 total.
Northwestern led wire-to-wire to take home the team title with a seven-over par total of 859 after a 13-over par 297 in its final round on Wednesday. Miami finished six strokes off of the Wildcats with a 13-over par total of 865 and fired a six-over par total 290 in its final round, while Iowa State placed third with a 16-over par 868 and also shot 290 on Wednesday. Tiffany Chan of Daytona State posted a one-under par 70 in her final round to earn medalist honors with a one-under par 212 total for a two-stroke victory.
The Owls will have a quick turnaround for the 3M Jaguar Invitational, hosted by GRU Augusta on March 13-15th, 2015 at Forest Hills Golf Club in Augusta, Ga.
