PONTE VEDRA BEACH, F.L. – Sophomores Dulcie Sverdloff and Laura Estefenn led the Kennesaw State women’s golf on the final day of the Web.com Intercollegiate on Tuesday (March 31, 2015) as the Owls finished in a tie for seventh with a 26-over par total of 890 after posting an eight-over final round score of 296 in the 17-team tournament, co-hosted by Atlantic Sun Conference foes Jacksonville and North Florida at the par-72, 5,967-yard Marsh Landing Country Club.
“We persevered today and pulled off a good round considering our start,” said head coach Rhyll Brinsmead. “Laura Estefenn was clutch for us today and Dulcie Sverdloff had a great overall tournament. We need to continue working on our fundamentals and being aggressive but I am satisfied with this finish considering we did not play that well. I am excited to have a quick turnaround to Ole Miss tomorrow as the team is eager for more competition.”
Sverdloff earned her fourth top-20 finish as she placed in a tie for 16th with a final round one-over par 73 and wrapped the tournament with a season-low two-over par 218 after posting two birdies and 13 pars on Tuesday.
Estefenn paced the Owls in their final round on Tuesday, turning in an even-par 72 to tie for 40th with an eight-over par total of 224. Joining the Bogota, Colombia native in a tie for 40th at 224 were seniors Kaew Preamchuen and Ines Lescudier, who carded rounds of three-over par 75 and four-over par 76, respectively.
Freshman Henriette Nielsen rounded out the Owls with a five-over par 77 in her final round to wrap the tournament in a tie for 65th with a 13-over par total of 229.
No. 32 Miami took home the team title with a 13-under par total of 851 after registering a final round even-par total of 288, besting No. 43 Texas Tech by five strokes as the Red Raiders finished with an eight-under par total of 856. No. 36 Florida State rounded out the top three with a three-under par total of 861. The Hurricanes’ Delfina Acosta earned medalist honors with a 10-under par score of 206 after firing a one-under par 71 in the final round.
The Owls will have a quick turnaround as they head to Oxford, MS, for the Rebel Intercollegiate, hosted by Ole Miss on April 3-5, 2015 at the Ole Miss Golf Course.
