KENNESAW, G.A. – Kennesaw State women’s golf head coach Rhyll Brinsmead welcomed in three talented student-athletes to the program as Clara Aveling (Linkebeek, Belgium/ Collège Saint-Hubert), Samantha Foley (Parkwood, Queensland, Australia/Groves Christian College) and Charlotte Charrayre (Communay, Rhone-Alpes, France/ Jean Mermoz Secondary School) inked National Letters of Intent to join the Owls for the 2015-16 school year on Thursday (Nov. 13).
“This was a really important class for us with graduating four seniors who made a really big impact on the team,” said Brinsmead. “Obviously Kaew and Ines have set the two lowest scoring average records in the history of the program, so when I went about recruiting for this class is was very important to bring in athletes that were going to make an impact. No so to replace those seniors, you cannot replace them, but to bring in athletes that were going to make an immediate impact as freshmen. It has been a long two, three years of work to get this signing class together, but I am really excited about it.”
Coming to Kennesaw after a stellar international career as a junior, Aveling has played for the Belgium national team for several years, including representing her home country at the Youth Olympic Games last month in Nanjing, China, where she posted scores of 74-75-78 in the event. She has earned several tournament titles in her career, including wining the Belgium National championship for the U16 division in 2012 and the U18 division in 2013, as well as the Grans Prix de la Cote d’Opale in 2013 with scores of 75-74-75. She finished as the runner-up at both the Total International Junior Open in Belgium and the Italian Ladies Open in 2014, where she finished with scores of 71-75-81-72 in the tournament. Aveling has also participated in the European team Championship from 2011 to 2013 and the European Ladies Team Championship in 2014, as well as receiving invitations to play in prestigious tournaments such as the Duke of York Young Champions Trophy, a event for national champions from around the world, and the Annika Inviational, which is an international event for the top 50 European girl golfers.
A decorated golfer from Brinsmead and assistant coach Nick Mackay‘s home country of Australia, Foley recently advanced to the finals of the prominent Queensland Stroke Play & Amateur Championship, falling in 35 holes to Shelly Shin, the 80th ranked player in the world. She is currently ranked as the No. 414 player in the world by World Amateur Golf Ranking (WAGR) and has numerous championships to her name, including being a three-time champion of the Queensland Mixed Foursome Championship, a two-time winner of the Titleist Two-Day Winter Classic, the Queensland Women’s Country Championship and the Adam Scott Junior Classic, as well as earning tournament titles at the Rod Pampling Junior Classic, the Pelican Waters Two-Day Junior Classic, the Queensland Junior Championship and the Royal Pines Club Championship.
Charrayre, the final member of the class of 2015-16, carries on the tradition of French golfers playing for the Owls after current senior Ines Lescudier and former KSU standout KSU completed a successful fall campaign last month and will open its spring schedule with a trip to Tallahassee, F.L., for the Florida State Round-Up on February 13-15th, 2015.
