ROCKY FACE, Ga. – The Kennesaw State men’s golf team placed 12th at the 15-team Carpet Capital Collegiate that concluded Sunday at the par-72, 7,178-yard The Farm Golf Club in Rocky Face, Ga.
The Owls carded a final-round 10-over par 298 to finish at 22-over par 886 in their 2018-19 season-opener.
Tennessee, which tied No. 9 Georgia Tech at 21-under par 843, defeated the Yellow Jackets in a playoff to capture the team title. Eleventh-ranked Alabama (845, -19) placed third, while Clemson and South Carolina posted scores of 1-under par 863 to tie for fourth and round out the top five.
Senior Jake Fendt paced Kennesaw State, finishing at 1-over par 217 to tie for 22nd. Fellow seniors Wyatt Larkin and Pablo Rodriguez-Tabernero Torres (222, +6) tied for 46th, while junior Connor Coffee (225, +9) and redshirt freshman Grant Sutliff (246, +30) tied for 58th and placed 79th, respectively
Bryson Nimmer of Clemson claimed the individual title, recording a score of 10-under par 206 to finish one shot ahead of Alabama’s Davis Riley and Tennessee’s Jake Meenhorst.
Kennesaw State returns to action in two weeks when it travels to Shoal Creek, Alabama, for the Graeme McDowell Shoal Creek Invitational that opens Sept. 24 at Shoal Creek Golf Club.
