AUGUSTA, Ga. – The Augusta Jaguars finished in third place out of 15 teams at their home event in the 38th annual 3M Augusta Invitational on Sunday afternoon (April 3rd, 2016) at Forest Hills Golf Club. Augusta has finished in the top 10 in all eight tournaments so far this season and has finished third or higher six times.
The No. 35 Jaguars led the 15-team field by three strokes after the 36 hole shotgun format on Saturday in day one. No. 4 Illinois overtook the field in the last round and won the team title at 27-under par. No. 2 Texas took second (-24), and the Jags (-18) placed above No. 3 Georgia (-10) for third place. No. 14 South Florida finished fifth (-8) for the top-five teams.
Illinois won their first team title at the 3MAI, after finishing runner up in 2015, fourth in 2014, and third in 2012.
Texas’ Beau Hossler won the individual title 11-under par with a 68 (-4), 68 (-4), and 69 (-3) in his tournament. It is Hossler’s fifth individual title this season.
Senior Robin Petersson carded his fifth top-five finish of the season with a tie for fourth at eight-under par – shooting 71 (-1) in round three. Sophomore Broc Everett finished three below par in the final round and placed 13th with a 74 (+2).
Shooting an even-par 72 in round three, senior Maverick Antcliff tied for 16th (-2), while junior Jake Marriott fired a round-three 71 (-1) to end knotted in 27th one over. Junior Emmanuel Kountakis ended three-over par and tied for 35th.
