Palm City, Fl. — The Augusta University men’s golf team wrapped up play at the Valspar Intercollegiate Invitational, finishing in 17th place after being unable to gain ground on the field. The tournament, which featured the top three ranked teams in the nation, was won convincingly by No. 2 Texas. No. 3 Arizona State finished second, and No. 14 Florida State placed third.

Stefan Jacobs was Augusta’s low golfer on the day and for the tournament. He posted a 1-under 70 on Tuesday and finished at 1-under overall. Starting on the back nine, Jacobs birdied his first hole of the day but followed with three bogeys. He rebounded on the front nine with a string of four straight birdies. Jacobs finished in 37th place individually.
Chapman Barnett shot a 73 Tuesday with three birdies, three bogies and a double bogey on the scorecard. Barnett finished +2 for the tournament.
Dean Wilken and Behn Heyns had the other two team counting scores. Wilken shot 73 and Heyns a 74. Heyns posted four birdies in his final round.
The final Jaguar in the field was Bo Blanchard II. After posting two solid opening rounds, Blanchard would start the day with three birdies in the first four holes. But things got away from him and he finished with a final round 75.
AU will next be in action as they host the Augusta Haskins Award Invitational April 5-6 at Forest Hills Golf Club in Augusta, Ga.
