ROSWELL, Ga., April 12, 2016 — Chris Hall of Kennesaw posted a 4-under-par 68 to lead after round one of stroke play qualifying at the Georgia Senior Match Play Championship. The fifth edition of this event is taking place at Horseshoe Bend Country Club, April 12-15.
Hall, winner of this competition in 2013 and 2014, recorded six birdies and two bogeys on Tuesday. Jeff Belk of Marietta scored a 1-under-par 71. Hall and Belk were the only players in the Senior division to turn in scores in red numbers. Defending champion Frank Remmes of Lilburn finished round one at 3-over-par 75.
In the Super Senior division for those age 65 and above, Len McWilliams of Ellerslie leads at 4-under-par 68. Don Marsh of Johns Creek, winner among the Super Seniors a year ago, posted a 5-over-par 77 in round one of stroke play qualifying.
Entries were open to male amateur golfers. The Senior division was open to those age 55 and older as of April 12, and the Super Senior division was open to those age 65 and older as of April 12.
The format is match play preceded by 36 holes of stroke play qualifying. The low 16 players advance to match play in the Senior division and the low eight players in the Super Senior division.
