JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – Freshman Natalie Petersen backed up yesterday’s 74 with a 75 today and tied for 18th, and the Georgia Southern women’s golf team placed 12th at the Jacksonville Classic at Marsh Landing Country Club.
Ansley Bowman shot 78 today and tied for 34th. Ella Ofstedahl posted a 78, Ashlynn Joyner shot an 80 and Sarah Noonan carded an 82.
Georgia Southern placed 12, seven strokes behind Xavier in 11th. Tournament host Jacksonville won the event by nine strokes.
The story
Petersen started her round on hole 11 and after a bit of a rough patch, hit her stride on hole 16. A par there began a stretch of eight straight pars, and she birdied the par-5 6th before parring the next three holes. She wound up shooting 1-under on the front nine.
Bowman also put together a solid front nine with a 37. She birdied the first hole, ran off four straight pars and finished the stretch with pars on 8 and 9. She also parred three of her final four holes of the day.
Ofstedahl shot 2-over on the front with a birdie on the par-4 2nd and played the final six holes of the round even. Noonan tied for the team lead with two birdies on the day, while Joyner shot 3-over on the front and played the last three holes 1-under.
Quotable from Coach Emily Kuhfeld
“We wrapped up our three tournaments in a row with a top-20 finish from freshman Natalie Petersen. The next few weeks we have time to work together on things like getting off to a stronger start, cleaning up our short games and getting some technical time in to straighten out a few of our shots. We are looking forward our continued growth and preparing the best we can for our next competition.”
