GASTONIA, N.C. – Jake Storey shot a 68, while Steven Fisk and Cody O’Toole posted 71 on the final day of the Gary Koch Invitational, and the Georgia Southern’s men’s golf team tied for fourth Tuesday at Gaston Country Club.
The Eagles played the final two holes of the tournament a combined 8-under to post a 282, which tied for the second-lowest team score of the day and was the lowest in the final pairing, which included Auburn and NC State. Georgia Southern (-1) tied ULM and placed ahead of No. 13 Virginia (+5) and No. 37 Kentucky (+7).
Twentieth-ranked Auburn (-18) won the tournament, followed by NC State (-10) and Coastal Carolina (-2). Storey’s round tied for the fourth-lowest of the day, and the junior finished 6-under for the tournament to tie for third with Jamie Mist of Jacksonville State. Fisk (-2) moved up three spots to finish in a tie for 12th.
Archer Price shot a 72 today, and Brett Barron carded a 77. Individual Crawford Simmons shot an 80.
The story
After a double bogey on hole 1, Storey tore it up and finished the day with seven birdies. He played his final 17 holes 6-under, made birdie on 17 and 18 and shot 31 on his final nine holes.
Fisk made two birdies and finished the front with a 35. The sophomore capped his round with six straight pars, followed by a birdie on 18.
O’Toole had a clean card except for one blemish on the ninth hole and made two birdies, including one on 17, to shoot 35 on the back. Price played his first seven holes 2-under and made birdie on holes 17 and 18.
