GAINESVILLE, Fla. – The Georgia Southern men’s golf team shot a 283 in the third and final round to finish sixth at the SunTrust Gator Invitational Sunday at Mark Bostick Golf Course.
GS (+23) was three strokes behind Florida State (+20) in fifth and bested UCF (+27) and North Florida by four strokes. Arkansas (+5) held on for the win, and Missouri (+12) tied for second with Jacksonville (+12), which shot 4-under today. Host Florida (+13) placed fourth.
The field featured nine teams ranked in the top-40 in the country, including the second-ranked Gators. Georgia Southern finished ahead of four of them, including 12th-ranked Wake Forest.
Archer Price and Brett Barron led the Eagles with even-par 70s today, and Jake Storey shot 71 to tie for 12th (+4). Price tied for 16th (+5), and Barron tied for 26th (+7). Jonas Vaisanen carded a 72 today, and Steven Fisk (T33) shot 73. The Eagles’ 38 birdies were tied for the fourth-most in the tournament.
The story
Barron had four birdies on the back nine and played his final 12 holes of the day 2-under-par. Price logged four birdies on the day and had three on the front nine to make the turn at 2-under. Storey played his final 10 holes at 2-under, making birdie on holes 11 and 12 before capping the round with six straight pars.
Vaisanen tied the team lead with five birdies on the day and rolled in two on holes 2 and 3 en route to making the turn at even par. Fisk made par or better with two birdies on eight straight holes in his round and finished the day with three straight pars.
