AWENDAW, S.C. – The Jaguars dropped 13 strokes from their team score and jumped six places in the 15-team field to finish 13-under par for third place at the Hootie at Bulls Bay Intercollegiate on Tuesday, March 31st, 2015.
GRU was in ninth place to start the event after the opening 18 holes on Sunday, but the Jaguars had four of their five starters shoot below par on Tuesday to climb the leader board and finish third. With the Jags shooting 13-under par in the final round, they finished 13-below for the event at the conclusion of 54 holes.
No. 5 South Carolina dominated their home event and won the title at 26-below par (838), while No. 29 New Mexico took second, GRU Augusta third, No. 4 Virginia fourth, and College of Charleston and No. 10 Auburn tied for fifth. Andrew Dorn of Coastal Carolina, No. 43 Matthew Nesmith from USC, and No 18 Gavin Green of New Mexico all tied for first to share the individual title at 11-under par.
Robin Petersson tied for fifth overall and paced the Jags, shooting a two-under 70 in his final round after he carded a 66 (-6) in Monday’s round. He finished seven-under par for the event.
Jake Marriott and Maverick Antcliff each turned in their best rounds of the tourney, with round-three 68’s (-4). Marriott and Antcliff each had seven birdies on the day, with Marriott finishing two-below par tied for 19th overall and Antcliff ending even in a tie for 29th.
Viktor Edin placed third for GRU – tied for 22nd overall, also posting seven birdies in his third outing. Edin finished one-under par, while teammate Cody Shafer ended in a tie for 48th with his 74 (+2) in round three.
