AIKEN, S.C. – The GRU Augusta men’s golf team tied for fifth in their first tournament of 2015 at the Cleveland Golf Palmetto Intercollegiate at the Palmetto Golf Club, in Aiken, S.C.
No. 8 South Carolina was in first after each round and hung on for the win with a team score of 825 (-15). No. 33 Clemson took second at 14-under par, No. 19 Virginia in third, No. 28 Kennesaw State in fourth, and the Jags tied for fifth with Idaho at one-over par (841).
Ranked 11th in the nation, South Carolina’s Will Starke won the individual title at nine-under par – shooting a 68 (-3) in his final round.
Jaguar junior Maverick Antcliff remained in the top 10 and finished the first for GRU in eighth place with a total score of 205 (-5). Antcliff shot his second round in the 60s at the event with a round-two 69, dominating the back nine again with five birdies.
Junior Robin Petersson and sophomore Viktor Edin each finished the event tied for 24th, with Petersson shooting a 72 (+2) in his final round and Edin a 71 (+1).
Improving 15 places in the field, sophomore Jake Marriott finished tied for 31st with an even-par 70 in round three. He finished the event at four-over par, while teammate Jackson Stroup ended in a tie for 55th after shooting a five-over 75 in round three to end nine over for 54 holes.
