AUGUSTA, G.A. – The GRU Augusta men’s golf team and Head Coach Jack O’Keefe announced that junior-transfer Cooper Brown, from Wallace State Community College, has signed his National Letter of Intent and will play for the Jaguars in the 2015-16 Division I golf season.
Cooper Brown is a Renfrew, Ontario Canada native and attended Wallace State Community College for two years in Hanceville, A.L., Brown was the 2014 National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) National Champion as the individual medalist.
“I am excited to have Cooper Brown at GRU Augusta in the fall,” O’Keefe said. “Cooper will be a tremendous asset for the golf team and university. He brings experience, leadership and the will to win and he will fit in nicely with our guys and have a chance to help us the minute he arrives on campus.”
Most recently Brown helped Wallace State reach their 30th NJCAA Division I tournament appearance in Newton, Kans., and finished fifth in the nation, after finishing fourth at the District 4 Championships in Alexander City, Ala.
Last season Brown guided Wallace State to a runner-up finish at the NJCAA Division I national tournament in Burlington, Iowa, where he took the individual prize. Brown won the individual title in a playoff with Midland’s David Wicks and finished the four-day event with a 5-over par 293. Brown bookended his national tournament rounds with a pair of 1-under 71’s, earning the Arnold Palmer Award as the low medalist and becoming the 15th NJCAA All-American in Wallace State golf history.
