COLLEGE GROVE, T.N. – The GRU Augusta men’s golf team finished the best they have all fall with a third-place showing at 19-over par (883) in The Grove Intercollegiate on Tuesday October 28th, 2014, hosted by Middle Tennessee State at The Grove Club. Junior Robin Petersson climbed 14 places to tie for seventh and lead GRU Augusta overall with a 220 (+4).
Ohio State jumped three spots to steal first place, eight strokes ahead of Troy in second. GRU Augusta took third in front of MTSU and College of Charleston finished fifth.
Petersson carded his low round of the event with a 71 in round three to finish the highest he has all season. He had three birdies including two straight on No. 17 and 18. Jackson Stroup stayed in the top ten and finished tied for eighth after he had one more stroke than Petersson with a five-plus 221 for the event. Stroup shot a 76 in the final round and also placed the highest he has all season.
Jake Marriott climbed three spots from his round-two finish and shot a 75 (+3) to tie for 18th – his second top 20 of the season. Maverick Antcliff, who was second for GRU after 36 holes, turned in a 78 (+6) in round three and slipped nine spots to 18th. Meechai Padung produced his low round of the tourney with a plus-two 74 to tie for 34th in the 69-man field.
The Jaguar men return to the course for the Wendy’s Kiawah Classic November 2-4th, 2014 hosted by Charleston Southern at Turtle Point Golf Club in Kiawah Island, S.C.
