AUGUSTA, G.A. – The Jaguars climbed one spot and finished fourth at 26-over par and 11 shots off the lead at their eighth-annual home event in the 3M Jaguar Intercollegiate at Forest Hills Golf Club.
The sun shined for the first time during the event on Sunday, March 15th, 2015 in round three and Coastal Carolina hung on for the victory at 15-over par with an 867. It is Coastal Carolina’s second victory at Forest Hills in the last six tournaments (2010). Lena Schaeffner of Coastal Carolina won the individual title with a round three 68 (-3) to end the event at four-under par.
Jags sophomores Teresa Caballer Hernani and Jessica Haigwood each tied for seventh in the event to pace the Jaguars. Haigwood shot the low round for GRU in the tourney with a 69 (-2) and Caballer Hernani posted a 73 (+2) in her final outing. Haigwood and Hernani finished three over after 54 holes.
Freshman Sonya Knebel paced all 10 individuals in a tie for 18th at 11-over par (224). Knebel shot a 73 in the third round with two birdies.
Carding a top-20 finish was sophomore Josefine Nyqvist who ended 13th overall with her second-straight 73. Nyqvist shot 221 for the event (+8), while Eunice Yi tied for 23rd after shooting a 74 in round three – her second best of the tourney. Freshman Maggie Ashmore posted a 76, her low round of the event, and tied for 49th. GRU Individual Lexi Bollant finished knotted for 65th and Shannon Pak 71st.
The Jags compete at the Bryan National Collegiate, hosted by UNC Greensboro & Wake Forest, at the Bryan Park Golf Course in Browns Summit, N.C., April 3-5.
