OLYMPIA FIELDS, Ill. – The Jaguar men’s golf team wrapped play at the Olympia Fields / Fighting Illini Invitational in Olympia Fields, Ill., and GRU Augusta carded ninth out of 15 teams on Sunday afternoon (September 20th, 2015) in their first event of the 2015-16 season.
Florida State led after the opening 18 holes and the Seminoles outlasted the competition and won the team title at six-above par. Oklahoma State finished second (+9), Arizona State third, Stanford fourth, and Illinois fifth.
The Jags began round three on Sunday in 10th place after sliding three spots in the field after shooting 294 as a team and sitting 23-over par. GRU Augusta finished tied for ninth with Arkansas at 37-over par.
Maverick Antcliff was the most productive Jag all weekend and finished the tournament in a tie for 18th overall. Antcliff posted six birdies on the weekend, while Broc Everett carded a 72 (+2) in round three to finish even at 22nd.
Junior Jake Marriott notched a 74 (+4) in the final round and ended tied for 43rd in the field. Robin Petersson took 50th and Emmanuel Kountakis took 66th to round out GRU Augusta.
Augusta competes at the Graeme McDowell Shoal Creek Invitational on Monday, Sept. 28, in Birmingham, Ala.
In its 10th season, the OFCC/Fighting Illini Invitational welcomed the nation’s top teams to the famed Olympia Fields Country Club. The club is home to several premier events including the 2015 U.S. Amateur. Olympia Fields has hosted two U.S. Opens, two PGA Championships, five Western Opens and a U.S. Senior Open among other high-level tournaments.
