POINT CLEAR, Ala. – The final day of the Women’s Southeastern Challenge Match was cut short due to rain and no matches were able to be completed. Matches began at 8 a.m. this morning, but no match was able to finish before play was stopped at 10 a.m. due to inclement weather. At 12:00 p.m., the decision was made to end play and as a result, Georgia was crowned the champion based on Day 1 results.

After Day 1 of play at the Women’s Southeastern Challenge Match, Team Georgia led Alabama and Florida 10.5 – 8.5 – 8.0 respectively. This biennial competition was played at Lakewood Golf Club in Lakewood, Ala. and featured top amateurs from Georgia, Florida and Alabama competing over two days.
During the morning Foursome matches, Georgia won six matches and halved one for a total of 6.5 points. Anna Buchanan of Athens, GA and Danielle Davis of St. Simons Island, GA defeated the Florida duo of Quinn & Schlesinger (1 up). Emilie Meason of Atlanta, GA and Margaret Shirley-Starosto of Roswell, GA defeated Alabama’s Oubre & Eddy (1 up). Susan Rheney of Greensboro, GA and Laura Coble of Augusta, GA defeated Alabama’s Gavin & Schlich (6 & 5). Rheney and Coble also picked up another point for Georgia with a victory over Florida’s Higgins & Culver (3 & 1). Lauren Lightfritz of Suwanee, GA and Janet Mao of Johns Creek, GA also picked up two points for Georgia. They defeated Lawley & Williams of Alabama (2 & 1) as well as Berman & Janiga of Florida (4 & 2). The final half point came from Elisa Yang of Norcross, GA and Louise Yu of Duluth, GA as they halved their match with Carter & Daughan of Florida.
Due to inclement weather, the afternoon Three-Ball Matches were reduced to nine holes but full points were still awarded. Georgia once again accumulated the most points with 4, while Florida and Alabama both had 2.5. Georgia got points from Meason and Starosto, who defeated Lawley & Williams of Alabama (1 up). Rheney and Coble also delivered a win over Florida’s Caldabaugh & Brower (1 up). Lightfritz and Mao continued their strong play defeating Jones & Holt of Florida (3 & 1). The duos of Elkins & Jackson and Yang & Yu both halved their matches to bring Georgia’s total on the entire day to 10.5
