ATHENS, Ga. — The Georgia women’s golf team is set to conclude the regular season on its home course, hosting the 53rdannual Liz Murphey Collegiate Classic at the UGA Honors Course on Tuesday and Wednesday.
The Liz Murphey Collegiate Classic will consist of 54 holes of play – 36 on Tuesday and 18 on Wednesday – and will tee off at 8:30 a.m. each day. Georgia will begin Tuesday’s play on holes 1-5 in a shotgun start while Wednesday will consist of tee times.
“It’s a huge treat to play at home, and we are grateful to be a part of one of the longest standing traditions in women’s college golf,” head coach Erika Brennan said. “The team has been rock solid in preparing, and we are ready to tackle the challenge ahead of us. With course conditions changing due to weather, we’ll need to adapt, be patient, and stand ready to capitalize when given the opportunities. We are tremendously proud of this team, and it’s time to showcase what we’re capable of in front of our home crowd.”
Twelve teams will vie for the team title in Athens, including four Southeastern Conference teams. Alabama, Missouri, and Oklahoma will join Georgia at the UGA Golf Course while Augusta, Chattanooga, Colorado State, Georgia Southern, Georgia State, Queens, San Diego State, and UAB are set to round out the field.
The Bulldogs are set for their second tournament in two weeks after most recently competing at the Chattanooga Classic. Georgia placed sixth in the field with a team score of 906 behind graduate student Chantal El Chaib‘s sixth top-10 finish of the season. She recorded a 54-hole score of 221 (+5) to tie for eighth while Celine Brovold Sanne (26th – 226) and Kate Song (28th – 227) were Georgia’s second and third finishers.
All six Bulldogs will see action for the second-straight weekend as five team golfers and one individual compete in the regular season finale. El Chaib leads off the Bulldogs lineup while sophomore Morgan Smith follows in the second spot. Senior Kate Song and Brovold Sanne occupy the third and fourth slots while sophomore Grace Frei rounds out the team lineup for Georgia. Freshman Zixin “Candice” Lou will compete individually in the tournament.
Tuesday will mark the beginning of the 53rd iteration of the Liz Murphey Collegiate Classic, which was first hosted by Georgia in 1973. In the 2024 tournament, the Bulldogs placed third out of 17 teams with a 15-over 879 score over 54 holes. Caterina Don placed second individually with a 3-under 213, highlighted by a second-round score of 67.
The Bulldogs’ team and individual golfers are paired with Alabama and Oklahoma in the first and second rounds, teeing off from holes 1-5 in an 8:30 a.m. shotgun start. Live scoring will be available at https://gado.gs/lmcc.
