GREENVILLE, SC – Led by the freshmen duo of Chloe Howard and Petra Duran, the Georgia State women’s golf team shot a final round 13-over 301 to finish 14th at the Lady Paladin Invitational at the Furman University Golf Course on Sunday, September 24th.
Both Howard and Duran shot rounds of 73 on Sunday and finished as the top two Panthers as each were making their collegiate debuts. Howard finished the 54-hole event at 7-over par and tied for 26th, while Duran tied for 52nd at 13-over par. Georgia State shot its best round of the tournament on Sunday and finished at 51-over par, one-stroke ahead of LSU and 22 strokes ahead of in-state rival Georgia Southern.
“I’m really proud of the way this team finished on Sunday,” head coach Cathy Mant said. “Chloe and Petra played some really great golf on Sunday. The future is bright for both of them and I believe the future is extremely bright for this team this season. We have some stuff to clean up before the next event, but I think we will be ready.” Sophomore Harmanprit Kaur shot a final round 79 and finished tied for 56th at 14-over par. Junior Jemima Gregson added a 76 on Sunday and tied for 69th at 17-over par. Senior Yasemin Sari rounded out the line-up with a final round 84 and finished tied for 89th at 35-over par.
Host Furman shot a final round 8-under 280 to finish the event at 7-under par and earn a 10-stroke victory. Daytona State finished in second place at 3-over par, with Kennesaw State coming in third at 10-over par. Middle Tennessee State finished at 11-over par and in fourth, with Memphis rounding out the top five at 15-over par.
Daytona State’s Jiwon Jeon led throughout and finished at 11-under par following a final round 70 to earn low medalist honors. Furman’s Haylee Harford finished in second place at 9-under par, with Kennesaw State’s Madison Caldwell coming in third at 7-under par. Middle Tennessee State’s Jenna Burris and Furman’s Alice Chen tied for fourth at 4-under par.
Georgia State will return to the course for the Jacksonville Classic, Oct. 2-3, at Marsh Landing Country Club in Ponte Vedra Beach, Fla.
