PONTE VEDRA BEACH, Fla. – The Georgia State women’s golf team shot a final round 319 to finish tied for seventh at the Jacksonville Classicon Tuesday. Freshman Chloe Howard led the Panthers with a 12th-place finish at Marsh Landing Country Club.
The Panthers, who entered the day in third place, finished the tournament at 55-over par following rounds of 301 and 299 on Monday.
Howard, playing in just her second collegiate tournament, shot a final round 79 to finish at 9-over par following back-to-back rounds of 73on Monday.
“We are all disappointed in the way today finished,” head coach Cathy Mant said. “We just made too many big numbers to overcome. However, we still did a lot of good things this week that we can take home as we start to prepare for another very good tournament next week.”
Junior Jemima Gregson shot a final round 83 to finish at 17-over par and tied for 34th. Sophomore Harmanprit Kaur added a 79 on Tuesdayto tie for 40th at 18-over par.
Freshman Petra Duran led the Panthers on Tuesday with a 6-over 78 and moved into a tie for 51st at 20-over par. Sophomore Grace Choi rounded out the line-up with an 87 to tie for 61st at 25-over par.
Host Jacksonville won the two-day event by nine strokes, finishing at 24-over par following a final round 296. Seminole State came in second place at 33-over par, followed by Daytona State in third at 36-over par. Flagler finished fourth at 41-over par, while Charleston Southern rounded out the top five at 46-over par.
Jacksonville’s Michelle Forsland and Amanda Detmer shared low medalist honors at 1-under par. Seminole State’s Worapitcha Anndit shot a final round 71 to finish alone in third place at even par, while four golfers tied for fourth at 4-over par.
Georgia State will return to the course for the Pinehurst Challenge, hosted by the College of Charleston Oct. 9-10, in Pinehurst, N.C.
