ATLANTA– Following a seven year hiatus, the Georgia State men’s golf team will return to the Wolfpack Intercollegiate at the Lonnie Poole Golf Course in Raleigh, N.C. beginning Saturday.
The field of 14 teams will play 36 holes on Saturday utilizing a shotgun start at 8:30 a.m. The final round for the 81-player field will take place on Sunday with tee times starting at 8 a.m.
“We have had a good couple of weeks of practice and are excited to get back out onto the course,” head coach Chad Wilson said. “In our last event, we played two solid rounds with some of the best teams in the country, but we were not able to finish. Our goal this week is to play three solid rounds and see where that leaves us on Sunday night.”
The field will include host NC State along with Campbell, East Carolina, George Mason, High Point, Jacksonville, Lipscomb, Loyola (Md.), Maryland, UNC Greensboro, UNC Wilmington, Southern Miss, and Wofford.
Georgia State’s line-up will include seniors Nathan Williams and Nick Budd, juniors Josh Edgar and Egill Gunnarsson, along with sophomore Owen Sertl. Freshman Frederik Hedmark will compete as an individual for the Panthers this week.
Through two tournaments, the Panthers have a 292.80 scoring average and four individual rounds in the 60’s. Gunnarsson’s 72.33 scoring average is the best of any Panther in the line-up this week as he is also tied for the low round of the season, a 5-under 67 at the Maui Jim Intercollegiate.
